The Penny
Yesterday while playing with some friends, Timothy swallowed a penny. I'm not sure he intended to swallow it, but I'm sure he put it in his mouth, as he does many other things (rocks, dirt, soap, etc.) He was gagging and even threw up (on us both) but didn't manage to dislodge the penny. Since he was drooling, I figured it hadn't gone down either. An x ray at the pediatrician's office confirmed that it was in his throat...in his esophagus behind his vocal cords. That meant it would need to be removed with a simple surgical procedure. Because of the location of the penny, if it dislodged and came up, it could block his windpipe....sooooo....he and I went to the hospital via ambulance (no lights or anything) just in case. They took him right back to surgery, and I met the otolaryngologist and the anesthesiologist on the way into the hospital. From the time I left Timmy being wheeled into surgery to the time the doctor met me with the expensive penny was less than twenty minutes. ...and Timothy seems no worse for the wear today.

Praising God that Timmy survived the penny incident!! Hmmmm, maybe DANGER is his middle name.
Love you all!!
Papa asked:"Why didn't you post a picture of the infamous PENNY??"
The camera battery was dead, and the camera charger is at your house. Otherwise I would have a picture of the penny and the ambulance and everything.
When I read on Jen's blog that a friend of theirs had swallowed a penny yesterday Timmy came to mind first. :) Sure enough I came to your blog and there was the penny story. I'm really glad he's okay! You are going to have many stories to tell when he's older! :) Love the pictures!
So glad to hear that Timmy is okay! That is quite a story!
What was the surgery like? Glad Timmy is fine! My kids still talk about his knife incident every time they see a sharp one and are tempted to play with it. Was it exciting for him to ride in the ambulance?
In response to Tori's questions, the surgery was quick and easy. I think he had 'monitored' anesthesia, and then the surgeon used forceps down his throat to snag the penny. Tim was definitely not excited about the ambulance ride, doctor's office or hospital. He kept pointing to the door and saying, "Home." I hope he doesn't have to go back to the doctor soon, because he will have a meltdown.
